Many kids are picky eaters. My 11-year-old sister likes her sandwiches with mustard, pickles and lettuce only… just bread, mustard, pickles and lettuce. This probably sounds extremely unappealing to a majority of people, but that’s how she likes it, and that’s the only way she will eat it. Her sandwich preference definitely falls under the category of picky eating, and new research shows that autistic children are even more likely to be picky when it comes to eating. Reuters states that autistic children “tend to refuse more foods and are more likely to restrict their diets to a smaller variety of foods than other children.”

Today mothers are doing everything they can to make sure their baby is getting the proper nutrition. Recently research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that the majority of American babies are not receiving the amount of vitamin D that is necessary for their growth.
According to Health.com, nine out of 10 babies that are breast-fed receive less vitamin D than what experts strongly suggest. Formula-fed babies receive less than 37 percent of recommended amount of vitamin D.

According to Shari Roan from the Los Angeles Times, a new study showed that raising the amount of vitamin D in the blood can help reduce the risk of heart disease by about 30%. Other studies have shown that heart disease is connected to low vitamin D levels, “but it has been unclear if people with low vitamin D have more heart disease because of the vitamin deficiency or for other reasons, such as lack of exercise,” said Dr. J. Brent Muhlestein, the lead author of the new study and director of cardiovascular research at Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute in Salt Lake City.
