Trying to get in better shape this summer? We all know that the population of America and some other countries are on the verge of extreme obesity. But there may be more to excess fat than you thought.
Health.com compiled a list of five myths about that extra layer of fat:
A new study revealed that drinking red wine might help keep a woman’s weight in check. The study involved 20,000 “trim” women, and “over time, women who drank alcohol in moderation put on less weight and were less apt to become overweight compared to non-drinkers,” reports Megan Brooks from Reuters. Other alcohols such as white wine, beer and spirits also helped at keeping the women in shape; however, red wine proved to be the most beneficial.

When most people think of Santa they think of his big, round belly and him eating cookies and milk. According to Dr. Nathan Grills, this image that we associate Santa with promotes obesity; he states that, “His popularity should be used to promote healthy living.”
Because Santa is so well known and famous, Dr. Grills thinks that Santa has the ability to affect people’s behavior, specifically people’s weight. Santa is made out to be a jolly guy, and researchers found that people associate obesity with cheerfulness, which they stated is “a mistake.”
