Ladies: do you take birth control? Do you take Yaz or Yasmine? You must be aware of the Yaz commercials that have been airing. Lately, Yaz and Yasmin have been on every TV channel and almost every newspaper discussing how their form of birth control has women at a huge risk for heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms, sudden death, gallbladder disease, strokes and/or blood clots. This Bayer product has health advocates saying their birth control puts women at a more dangerous chance of developing these health problems than other birth control companies.

Post image for Mammograms – What To Know Now

Thanks to early screenings and aggressive treatments, women are surviving breast cancer more than ever before. But women must question why the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force now recommends that women don’t need to get regular mammograms before the age of 50, limit screenings to every other year and that self exams aren’t necessary.

Post image for Tax on Tanning Parlors Is a Sin Tax

I am not sure how many of the public noticed a provision in the proposed health reform legislation that would have placed a federal tax on cosmetic procedures. The provision was known as the Bo-TAX and it aroused a unified response from the medical community in general and organized medicine in particular. This proposed tax was a clear example of how out of touch the Congress is with the needs of the public. This always happens in government when those who govern make a career of governing rather than serving the electorate.

Post image for Rubin Says Obama Needs to Fix Healthcare Reform Mess

Andrew Rubin from The Huffington Post says he is upset about healthcare reform failing, but is most upset that many Americans are unaware of what has actually happened. He says, “Sure, they know the Senate and House reform bills were expensive. They certainly know that there are among 30 to 50 million Americans without health insurance coverage… We should also not forget about the 25 million under insured, most of whom do not even realize it until they actually get sick.”

Post image for Why Health-Care Reform Wasn’t as Popular as Expected

President Barack Obama’s health plan was created to help the average American by substantially lowering costs for families and not requiring adults to purchase insurance, and in return, only wealthy people’s taxes would increase. “But a year later, the health care proposals in Congress lack many of those easy-to-sell benefits, which became victims of the lengthy process of trying to win over wavering lawmakers, appeasing powerful special-interest groups and addressing concerns about the heavily burdened Treasury,” reports MSNBC.

Post image for Several States Threaten to Sue Over Subsidy Offered to Nebraska

Many states aren’t happy with the pending health-care bill. Fifteen states are actually threatening to sue the government because of a subsidy that is being offered to Nebraska. This subsidy is “capricious and arbitrary treatment of Nebraska,” states South Carolina’s Republican Attorney General Henry McMaster, who has put together a crew of 15 attorneys to carry out a lawsuit.

Post image for “Botax” to Pay for Health Care Reform?

There is a proposal in the Senate to slap “a 5% excise tax on elective cosmetic procedures… that includes things like Botox injections, breast implants, tummy tucks, face lifts, liposuction, teeth whitening, eyelid repairs, etc.” reports Jack Cafferty from CNN. The tax would exclude restorative surgeries.

Post image for Increasing Reform Costs Worries California

State lawmakers, especially California, are worried about the increased costs of the proposed expansion of Medicaid.

WebMD reports that, “California’s budget crisis already is hindering Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program, in its current state. Adding 1.6 million new enrollees to the program would be extremely difficult if not impossible.”
