Ladies: do you take birth control? Do you take Yaz or Yasmine? You must be aware of the Yaz commercials that have been airing. Lately, Yaz and Yasmin have been on every TV channel and almost every newspaper discussing how their form of birth control has women at a huge risk for heart attacks, pulmonary embolisms, sudden death, gallbladder disease, strokes and/or blood clots. This Bayer product has health advocates saying their birth control puts women at a more dangerous chance of developing these health problems than other birth control companies.

According to Reuters, “Children were the leading growth demographic for the pharmaceutical industry in 2009, with the increase of prescription drug use among youngsters nearly four times higher than in the overall population.” Last year, over one in four children in the U.S. and almost 30 percent of adolescents took at least one prescription medicine to treat a chronic condition.

It seems that everywhere you turn there are signs that read, ‘H1N1 Vaccines Available Here’. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and several other retailers are fighting to get their name out there to advertise their in-store health clinics. Rite Aid and Kroger are promoting themselves by putting signs up on their front doors, and putting ads in weekly ad circulars. Walgreens plans to take it a step further by putting ads for the vaccine on their website and on television.
