Are you shy?  This personality trait may not be solely based to your upbringing.  A recent study, conducted by researchers at Stony Brook University in New York, and Southwest University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has found that introverted people may be born with a trait that causes inhibited tendencies.

About 20% of people are born with a personality trait called sensory perception sensitivity (SPS) that can cause people to have neuroticism.  The new results show that these highly sensitive individuals also pay more attention to detail, and have more activity in certain regions of their brains when trying to process visual information than those who are not classified as highly sensitive.

Post image for Use Rapid ABC Test to Quickly Test Your Child For Autism

Worried your baby has autism? New research by Emory University and Georgia Tech shows that a test can be done, by the parents of a potential autistic child, in just five minutes.

Rapid Attention Back and Forth Communication Test (Rapid ABC) is the new test which can engage a child through simple activities testing attention-span, communication and recognition skills. This test is certainly not meant to replace the original test created by the, American Academy of Pediatrics (the test takes about two hours) but, helps identifying those children who may be at risk earlier in their life to get started on therapy, if needed.

Post image for Biggest Food Let Downs of 2009

Do you find yourself eating healthier everyday? Hopefully that answer is yes. In the last year or so the media and the health industry have made a huge commotion about a few words…organic, fortified and natural. Companies have thrown these words all over their product labels to catch the consumers eye. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, have lenient rules which allow certain language to be used on the front of their products. Yet, when you take a look on the nutritional label you’ll quickly see that this product is not healthy at all.

Health.com has spent quite a long time detecting the most overrated health food products that seem to be fooling even the most serious, health-conscious shoppers. These products may not be all that bad but they are not what they ‘claim’ to be.

Post image for Spanking Your Child Can Cause Aggressive Behavior Later On

A new study shows that spanking your child might cause them to act aggressively later on down the road; Frederik Joelving from Reuters reports that 90 percent of parents spank their children. When I was growing up I didn’t get spanked often, but it seemed like getting spanked was just what happened if you got in trouble, no big deal. However, the study revealed that “kids who were spanked often were twice as likely as those who weren’t spanked to develop aggressive behaviors such as getting into fights, destroying things or being mean to others,” reports Reuters.

Post image for Kids Can Get Cavities from Parent’s Kisses?

Most people associate cavities with a lack of brushing and flossing, or eating too much candy, but shockingly, children can actually get cavities from sharing utensils or cups with their parents, and also from kisses on the mouth from their parents. The saliva transfer from person to person is the reason for the cavities in children, and “the primary culprit is Streptococcus mutans, a bacteria that can pass from person to person through the transfer of saliva,” reports NBC News.

Post image for How to Prevent Your Child From Getting Hurt While Playing Sports

While playing any sport you take the risk of injuring yourself; however, kids are much more susceptible to sports injuries for many reasons. Children are “less coordinated and have slower reaction times than adults because they are still growing and developing,” reports KidsHealth.org. Also, kids grow and mature at different rates, so even though kids on the same team are the same age, their sizes vary greatly, which can also increase the risk of injury. And kids tend to not think things through all the way, so they may take risks while playing sports without realizing that they could seriously injure themselves.

Even though kids seem to be more likely to get injured while playing sports, there are several things you can do to lessen the chance of injury.
