- Good cholesterol on the down-low… almost 7,000 people in a study led by a researcher at IU studied the relationship between HDL (aka good cholesterol) and serious coronary events. The study finalized that low HDL was the 3rd most prevalent predictor of coronary events.

Most people are around these products everyday, they are in the carpet, food wrap, mattresses, shower curtains, cookware, bedding…the list goes on and on. Every room in every house in America most likely contains at least one of these chemicals. The scary part is…several of these chemicals did not exist a century ago.

Worried your baby has autism? New research by Emory University and Georgia Tech shows that a test can be done, by the parents of a potential autistic child, in just five minutes.
Rapid Attention Back and Forth Communication Test (Rapid ABC) is the new test which can engage a child through simple activities testing attention-span, communication and recognition skills. This test is certainly not meant to replace the original test created by the, American Academy of Pediatrics (the test takes about two hours) but, helps identifying those children who may be at risk earlier in their life to get started on therapy, if needed.

Today women are ‘obsessed’ with their size. In the last 10 years England had an 80% increase in young ladies who were hospitalized for anorexia. Young girl’s idea of the perfect body image is the famous women who strut the front of magazine covers. The estimation of 1.1 million people residing in the United Kingdom suffer from an eating disorder of some kind. These women range from 12-24 years old who do anything from over-exercise, take laxatives, bulimia, calorie-count and obsessively diet.

According to a California analysis, 40-year-old mothers-to-be have a 50% higher chance than younger moms to bear a child affected by autism. Which continues to say that it is not likely that this delay in motherhood plays a big role in the current autism epidemic. Mothers over 40 years old in California increased by 300% while autism grew by 600% which at first look seems that the rise in autism parallels older mothers. Older moms don’t add up as the reason for this increase in autistic children, which is now one out of 100 kids.

In only four years autism grew by 57%. WebMD reports that, “By the end of 2006, one in 110 U.S. kids had an autism disorder diagnosed by age 8: one in 70 boys and one in 315 girls, reflecting a nearly fivefold higher risk for males.”
