A new study revealed that drinking red wine might help keep a woman’s weight in check. The study involved 20,000 “trim” women, and “over time, women who drank alcohol in moderation put on less weight and were less apt to become overweight compared to non-drinkers,” reports Megan Brooks from Reuters. Other alcohols such as white wine, beer and spirits also helped at keeping the women in shape; however, red wine proved to be the most beneficial.

What kid doesn’t like candy? Not many. Research has recently found that children who have an ‘extra’ sweet tooth may be at risk for depression or alcohol problems as an adult. Reports have pointed to particular kids who are interested in sugary treats more than normal – they might become an addict one day. Apparently, these same kids usually have a family member who has an alcohol problem or depression issues. What isn’t clear is whether or not the attraction to sweetness is because of a chemical difference or their upbringing. Researchers report that sweet taste-buds and alcohol ignite several of the same reward circuits in the brain.

Post image for Decreases in Teen Drug Use Level Off

An annual survey shows that drug use in teenagers has either increased or leveled off in the past few years, despite the fact that for a while teen drug use was on the decline. Federal officials are referring to this increase of drug use in 2008 and 2009 a “troubling warning sign of teen substance abuse.”

Todd Zwillich from WebMD reports that, “About a third of high school seniors, a quarter of sophomores, and about one in eight eighth graders reported using marijuana in the past year.”
