Some of these procedures are permanent, while others provide only temporary results. Lip enhancement can be used for many reasons, such as small, deflated lips, asymmetry, reconstructive needs, drooping or sagging upper lip, lack of color, and/or wrinkling.

Both of these are commonly used for aesthetic reasons to soften wrinkles of expression but there are also medical applications in muscle spasticity situations.
