Ladies: do you have trouble falling asleep at night? Don’t get too worked up about this, but the more you suffer from insomniac symptoms the more likely you are to put on the pounds.
Middle aged women, who have trouble sleeping at night, according to Reuters.com, may start to gain weight when their happily sleeping counterparts are having no trouble at all. Research is strongly linked between sleep problems and excess weight being gained, even among children.
The Journal of Obesity found that sleeping issues are indeed related to weight gain, close to 7,000 40-60 year old adults were studied for seven years. Women who reported bothersome sleep problems usually packed on more pounds than women who were sound asleep. Around 1/3 of women with sleeping issues gained over 10 pounds, compared to 1/5 of women who had no problems sleeping. Men do not seem to have such issues linked to sleeping and weight gain.
