Are you a runner? Have you ever thought about running barefoot? In California, Michae Legault has started running sans shoes and says running shoes can actually be dangerous.
According to SeattleTimes.com, Legault has been running barefoot for seven years after being a track and cross country coach. Legault discovered barefoot running after he searched for flatfoot running shoes. A flatfoot shoe gave him a black toenail during one of his marathons, two miles before the marathon was over he took off his shoes and finished the run.
Over the last 10 years barefoot running has started to catch on. Christopher McDougall wrote the 2009 best-seller, “Born to Run” whose book spoke about research that said running barefoot may improve your stride and prevent injury. Other doctors say that this type of running is not good for the feet and may cause more injury. One man ran the Oakland marathon, 26.2 miles barefoot, last March.
“It feels incredible,” says runner and author Michael Sandler, whose “Barefoot Running: How to Run Light and Free by Getting in Touch with the Earth” teaches people how to gradually kick off their shoes and run au naturel.. “When you are connected to the ground, you see it in a different way. You are no longer watching the scenery pass by, you are part of it.”
