Are you a mosquito magnet? With summer well on its way, mosquitos are definitely an issue during all the BBQs, evenings on the lake or picnics by the river.

According to WebMD.com, some people might be attracting more mosquitos than others. Actually, only females bite and only because they need human blood to help develop fertile eggs… apparently not just anyone’s blood completes the job. A few of the components that attract mosquitos are: cholesterol, carbon dioxide, steroids and uric acid. Mosquitos prefer adults to children and seem to be even more attracted to pregnant women than regular adults.

If you want to keep the mosquitos away and still break a sweat (the lactic acid and carbon dioxide are released when you exert yourself) use DEET repellent, it is the most effective and safe.

“People with high concentrations of steroids or cholesterol on their skin surface attract mosquitoes,” Jerry Butler, PhD, professor emeritus at the University of Florida, tells WebMD.
