Are you a junk food eater? Most everyone eats junk food at some point whether it’s late after a night on the town, when on a road trip or when your fridge is empty. Whether out of convenience or habit, the important thing is to keep junk food consumption in moderation and learn to control your urges.
Shape.com, has come up with the top six junk food rules to keep you from going overboard:
- CONTROL. It is uber important to keep your cravings at bay; deprivation is not the answer either though. Try to come up with an alternative to whatever you are craving for example: if you want chips, eat blue corn chips or popcorn.
- INDULGE. Yes that’s right…indulge, but be smart about it. Eat three bites of dessert or cut that cheesy sandwich in half.
- AVOID stocking up on junk. Only indulge in your favorite treat when out or when you suddenly feel the urge. Don’t stock up on it so that you can constantly over-indulge on junk food.
- CHANGE it up. Add healthy foods to your unhealthier foods, for example, if you must have that slice of cheesecake, incorporate some raspberries.
- COUNT your calories. Compare your snacks fat and calories to each other before you choose one. Obviously a cup of pineapple is a MUCH better choice than pizza rolls. Yogurt is a better option than ice cream.
- FOCUS on fat. Start paying close attention to your labels. Look at the ingredients, if there are any words you can’t understand…put the box down! Processed foods can raise your cholesterol, your fat, your weight and it can lead to diabetes and many other risky health disorders.
