Ever considered cosmetic surgery? Every year this “fountain of youth” is being dipped into by more than one million Americans.
According to WebMD.com, the most popular surgeries are liposuction, tummy tuck’s, breast enlargement, rhinoplasty and chin augmentation.
- Nose job: an experienced plastic surgeon can re-shape a nose that seems to large or wide, crooked or those noses that have a nasal bridge. Doctors recommend waiting until age 14. Recovery is one to three weeks.
- Eyelid surgery aka blepharoplasty: this will eliminate any bags underneath the lower eyelid. This surgery will help smooth out the skin beneath your eyes. Recovery usually takes about week with minimal scarring.
- Neck lift: tired of the “turkey wattle”? Tissue in the neck can become weak over time and begin to droop, removing excess fat can fix this problem. Recovery can take up to two weeks.
- Facelift: a more youthful face can be accomplished by having this surgery. This surgery used to be extremely popular but is now losing out to less invasive procedures.
- Laser skin resurfacing: fix facial imperfections with a laser, pulsating beams of light vaporize dead, damaged skin cells. Wrinkles and blemishes disappear once the outer layers are removed. Recovery takes one to two weeks.
- Hair transplant: tired of hair loss? A surgeon can transfer hair to the bald, thinning areas of the head, where it will take root.
- Arm lift: triceps are a tough muscle to keep toned, particularly in women. Get rid of “chicken wings” by taking advantage of this procedure (aka brachioplasty.) The surgery will tighten the tissue from the armpit to the elbow by removing extra fat. However, scarring is possible.
- Liposuction: this is hands down the most popular cosmetic surgery, half a million surgeries are performed every year. The surgeon uses a suction device to remove extra fat which will help the skin appear smoother.
- Tummy tuck (aka abdominoplasty): this is a major surgery which consists of removing extra fat, tightening muscles in the stomach. A permanent scar is possible, this surgery is not suggested to those who plan to get pregnant or lose additional weight.
- Breast implants: breasts are enlarged by placing an implant filled with silicone or saline. A minimally invasive procedure with few risks…mothers, this surgery might make it difficult to breastfeed.
- Breast reduction: this procedure removes fatty tissue to create a smaller breast size, can change nipple sensitivity and make breastfeeding difficult.
When choosing a surgeon, have realistic expectations, begin with trust, make sure they are board certified and can provide references of successful procedures.
