Starting to lose your energy throughout the day? It’s time to find what works for you and make it happen.
Health.com, has compiled 13 ways to help re-energize yourself to avoid hitting a wall in the middle of your day.
- EAT breakfast. Those who eat breakfast have been known to have more energy throughout the day than those who skip that first meal. Make it healthy- Greek yogurt with fresh fruit, veggie omelet or oatmeal are great starters.
- SMILE. Fake it till you make it. Dress how you want to be perceived. Soon enough the energy you are faking will rub off – on you.
- THINK about what you have, not what you don’t have. Pump yourself up with all the positive things in your life.
- CHANGE up your routine. Don’t let energy get sucked out of your same ol’ same ol’ blah kind of day.
- SIP on a cold beverage to stay alert in a long meeting. Iced water is best for hydration purposes but iced tea is great for the caffeine boost.
- NO sleep? Instead of chugging down a venti coffee from Starbucks drink 4-6 ounces every few hours. Low amounts of caffeine are more effective throughout the day.
- DON’T lie. Lying takes a lot of energy, don’t waste it on not telling the truth.
- BREATHE. Don’t let something bad take you over the edge. Stop, take a moment and take a deep breath. Getting upset about something takes a lot of energy, let it go.
- CLEAN it up. Clutter can drag you down, avoid that by making your work space and home space nice and tidy.
- TUNE it up! When you are getting ready to work out, get motivated by your music. Your favorite tunes should put a pep in your step.
- MOVE it. The more active you are, the better circulation your body will have which will create more energy within you. Take a quick walk, jet up a flight of stairs, find some way to incorporate quick exercise.
- NIBBLE on some dark chocolate. Dark chocolate, unlike that iced cookie, has theobromine which gives an energy boost when eaten. Eat only dark chocolate with at least 60 percent cacao combine with a little protein, like almond butter to avoid a crash later.
- HYDRATE. Fatigue can quickly be caused by dehydration, to avoid this altogether keep drinking tons of water. Potassium is a mineral which can help as well, eat a banana, an avocado or coconut water.
“Muffins, granola, and croissants are energy zappers,” Los Angeles–based dietitian Ashley Koff, RD, says. “They’re high in sugar, sodium, and less-healthy fats, providing carbs but rarely protein. So you get superhigh in the morning, and two hours later you’re picking yourself up off the floor.”
Grab your iPod, a banana, water and a positive attitude and you’ll stay on top of your game all day. Having trouble getting back on track because of an injury? Find a physical therapist near your home who can help.
