Does your child cry wolf when they are “hurt”? It’s hard to know sometimes when your child is being overly dramatic or is truly hurt/sick.

According to ChicagoTribune.com, there are five avoidable, minor infractions that can truly jeopardize our childrens’ health.

  1. Does your child really have a cough/cold? Administering your child cough/cold medicine can be quite ineffective. Try using honey instead.
  2. How much milk and juice does your child drink? If you let your child drink too much milk they might lose their appetite. More often than not, fruit juice today can have more sugar than a soda.
  3. Leave the bandage on the boo-boo. When you let the boo-boo ‘breathe’ it immediately will start to scab – that can be avoided by keeping them protected. It also avoids scarring.
  4. Avoid bringing your infant inside while they are in the car seat. If the infant is being held they have to work on their balance, stability, flexibility and strength. If they are ‘parked’ in their car seat they lay limp and miss out on some simple body function-strengthening skills.
  5. Avoid fever phobia. Fevers mean they are fighting an infection, little ones can have a higher fever than adults and still be ok. Life-threatening infections usually have a low fever.

“Kids develop an addiction to sugary drinks and will turn away from water, because it has no taste,” said Deborah Enos, nutritionist.
