When a lot of people hear the term ‘deep tissue massage’ they may initially be turned off because of what people have told them or maybe because of a prior painful experience. I’ve never gotten a deep tissue massage, but I have heard stories about it being quite painful. However, for people who are suffering from muscle aches or strains, they shouldn’t avoid a deep tissue massage because with such injuries, a “deeper form of massage is needed, but it can be done in ways that will not create more pain or tissue damage,” reports EmpowHer.com.

When you get a deep tissue massage there can be pain involved because of “tiny rips that will appear in the muscle and connective tissue,” reports EmpowHer.com. But there are a couple methods that won’t create pain, and will actually help ease your pain. One method is the muscle energy technique (MET) and the other is a positional release therapy (PRT). “These two protocols are extremely effective in releasing muscle aches without pain using the body’s own physiology and innate wisdom to correct and heal itself,” states EmpowHer.com.
