How well do you treat your teeth? Everyone has bad habits, does yours have to do with your dental hygiene? Some people grind their teeth, others think they have to brush their teeth really hard. These bad habits need to be broken.
According to Shape.com, there are 10 bad dental habits that must be addressed:
- What toothpaste are you using? Tartar control-specific toothpastes can be too harsh. Your toothpaste shouldn’t feel gritty, which can cause a receding gum line. Fluoride is the only ingredient must-have in your toothpaste.
- Don’t be so rough. A lot of pressure can rub off the protective enamel which can push your teeth into the extra-sensitive category plus it might cause cavities… and receding gums. Use a soft-bristle brush, be gentle, use circular motions for two minutes twice a day. Electric toothbrushes aren’t a bad way to go either.
- Don’t leave out floss! Flossing once a day is imperative in keeping plaque, cavities and gum disease away.
- No sugary sodas allowed. Phosphoric acid can erode teeth over time… if you must have your soda, use a straw to eliminate contact with your teeth.
- Avoid foods that stain. What most don’t know is your teeth’s enamel is comparable to a sponge, with that said, anything that might leave a stain on your white t-shirt will probably stain your teeth as well. In other words, coffee, red wine, soy sauce, soda, tea and marinara sauce. An easy fix is getting laser whitening or bleaching. Be careful on using whitening toothpaste, they can hurt your enamel.
Feel like your teeth just aren’t white enough? Find a dentist near your home who can whiten your teeth.
