Ever felt self-conscious about your breath? There are ways to avoid this embarrassment!

According to Article Health and Fitness, one of the major causes of bad breath is a build up of bacteria. Thankfully, this can be treated rather easily with a dedicated oral hygiene schedule.

A few causes of bad breath are:

  • Gnarly teeth: if you have any rotting teeth this is definitely the problem. Visit a dentist right away so they can remove the affected tooth.
  • Sick? Sometimes being sick can cause bad breath, especially if your gastrointestinal area is affected.
  • Mmmm garlic and onions! You might want to lay off garlic, onions and spicy foods if you are going on a date or have a big night ahead.
  • Smoking… well duh! Disgustingly, nicotine oozes from every pore in your body, inside and out, so in other words… STOP SMOKING!
  • Swollen tonsils? Infected tonsils can have tons of bacteria hidden in them which can release awful smells.

Tips to protect against bad breath:

  1. Chew minty gum: this will help to break up the gunk on your teeth and tongue
  2. Eat coarse food at dinner like salad to help clean the stuff off your teeth and tongue
  3. Buy a tongue scraper
  4. Stay hydrated
  5. Avoid coffee, soda and alcohol
  6. Steer clear of onion, garlic, curry and spicy foods
  7. Purchase a new toothbrush every four months

Worried about your breath? Speak with a dentist near your home who can help.
