Good news for those of you who drink coffee or consume other forms of caffeine while at work: according to a new review, consuming caffeine on the job can improve night-shift workers’ performance and help them avoid making mistakes. According to HealthDay.com, shift work can disrupt workers’ body clocks, which can result in them only sleeping for short periods of time and can cause them to become sleepy on the job, therefore, boosting the risk of errors.

Researchers reviewed several studies that examined the effects caffeine had on shift-work performance and found that “caffeine appeared to do a better job of preventing errors than naps or the placebos, and also improved performance in areas such as memory, attention, perception and reasoning,” reports HealthDay.com. The participants consumed caffeine in several forms including coffee, pills, energy drinks or food.

If you are having trouble sleeping, find a doctor near you who can help.
