Have you ever bent a rule? Almost everyone has… and what good are rules unless they can be bent slightly?
WebMD.com has provided a list of health rules that can be bent:
- 5 second rule… the food is fine!
- Your friend has a cold – don’t go hiding
- Catch your zzzz’s – everyone needs a different amount of sleep
- Don’t number your fruits and veggies – there is no magical number, just eat a lot of them
- Moderate-intensity will do – depending on your health goals, walking a 4 mph pace for an hour is just as good as running a 10 minute mile
- Don’t need to be the super sterile mom anymore – our water has gotten exponentially safer over the years
- Yearly check-ups aren’t necessary – your 8 year old doesn’t need to go to the doctor unless a health issue is involved
- Travel light – no need to change your daily schedule just because you’re on the road
- It’s OK to skip a workout – every now and then it’s good to rest
- Everything in moderation – eating healthy is uber-important, but eating your high-calorie, favorite foods on Saturdays is okay
- I am woman, hear me roar! Women can lift weights and aren’t likely to bulk up since we don’t have testosterone
- Hydrate – water is the obvious choice, but lettuce, melons and soup can hydrate too
“No one should be so health obsessed as to engage in antisocial behavior,” says Norman H. Edelman, MD, chief medical officer of the American Lung Association.
