Previous studies have suggested that strengthening your brain power and talking on cell phones can prevent Alzheimer’s disease; however, an expert panel says that there is no definite evidence that any of these things can actually act as prevention methods. According to Reuters, experts also say that supplements, drugs and social interaction are unsuccessful in preventing the disease.
Experts came to this conclusion by examining several studies done in the past that presented ways to prevent Alzheimer’s, and after looking at dozens of studies, they found that “none were strong enough to constitute proof,” reports Reuters. “We wish we could tell people that taking a pill or doing a puzzle every day would prevent this terrible disease, but current evidence doesn’t support this,” said Dr. Martha Daviglus of Northwestern University in Chicago.”
There are some drugs that are successful in treating Alzheimer’s, but unfortunately, they only work for a short time. Doctors don’t fully understand what causes Alzheimer’s, but they do know genetics are strongly involved.
If you or someone you know is showing signs of Alzheimer’s, find a doctor near you who can help.
