First of all, if you haven’t already, do not pick up a cigarette. Don’t let this addicting, fatal habit consume your life. Those of you who are struggling to quit know how hard it is to kick this habit. Nicotine is powerfully addictive and close to impossible to quit cold turkey. There are several ways to help quit smoking; gum, psycho-analysis, drugs, etc.

Health.com has provided some ‘outside the box’ ways to shut the door on this morbid addiction:

  1. Detach emotionally- physically bury your pack of cigarettes
  2. Challenge yourself- if someone bet you couldn’t stop, wouldn’t that give you the extra push to quit?
  3. Pay up- partner up with a family member or friend, bet the other to pay a sum of money if you quit, whoever breaks the agreement has to belly up the cash
  4. Erase that craving- suck on straws, chew on regular gum or hey, try a dog bone!
  5. Make an agreement with yourself
  6. Order up!- Try a baking soda cocktail to rid the habit
  7. Get hypnotized
  8. Small steps, big results
  9. Get dirty…put your cigarettes somewhere that you think is disgusting…then you’ll be less likely to pick them up
  10. Voice your need to stop

“My cousin smoked for 20 years. She quit in an interesting way—she started eating Milkbone dog biscuits! She chewed on them to kill the craving and she quit.” — Chris T., New York, N.Y.
