Most people who suffer from migraines are not able to predict the next time one of their painful headaches will strike. 1,500 migraine sufferers were asked to complete an initial 10-minute survey, and then asked to complete another survey after their next migraine. “Only about 4 percent of those who filled out the second survey were able to predict the exact date of their next migraine,” reports Reuters.

A lot of the time, people who suffer from migraines are forced to cancel plans because of the excruciating pain that comes along with their unexpected headaches. About 28 percent of the survey participants said they had canceled social commitments and plans due to fear of migraines. Dr. X. Henry Hu of Merck & Co., Inc. says, “The unpredictability of migraines…could contribute to people’s anxiety and fear about them. [And] because of the lack of predictability of future migraine attacks, migraine sufferers may benefit from increased education on the importance of keeping medication available at all times.”

Talk to a doctor near you about ways to prevent migraines, and ways to ease the pain when they strike.
