Cosmetic dentistry porcelain veneers are a quick fix to a perfect smile. They are “thin shells that are made for one’s teeth and they are created to actually cover the surface of one’s existing teeth,” reports WorlDental.org. If you are looking to better your smile, cosmetic dentistry porcelain veneers could potentially be a good choice for you, but there are many pros and cons that come along with getting them.

People who get veneers have to get them replaced every ten to fifteen years; porcelain veneers tend to last longer than the resin variants because porcelain is more stain resistant. Getting veneers is a good way to brighten your smile because the veneers can cover up discolored teeth. They can also “improve the appearance of eroded teeth, teeth that are slightly uneven or misaligned, and it can cover up broken teeth too,” states WorlDental.org. Porcelain veneers look and feel natural, and “minimal preparation of the teeth is needed to have veneers applied,” says WorlDental.org.

If you get porcelain veneers, you cannot reverse the process; once you have them, you have to keep them. You cannot whiten your teeth because the color of your veneer is permanent and won’t change with whitening products or processes. The porcelain veneers are a bit pricier than some other options, and if something were to happen to your veneer, it would have to be replaced which is not an easy task. After getting veneers you might experience increased sensitivity to cold and hot foods because some tooth enamel must be removed to bond the veneers to your teeth. And someone who gets veneers must be extra careful when eating so the veneers are not dislodged, and biting your finger nails is definitely not an option.

Talk to a dentist in your area to find out if getting porcelain veneers is a good choice for you.
