According to the Chicago Tribune, the Food and Drug Administration recently announced a review about bone-building osteoporosis drugs similar to Fosamax. The review was concerning the safety with these drugs and the risks that may apply. There is a risk of femur fractures caused from bone weakness.

Chicago Tribune continues to state that other drugs linked to bone loss include synthetic thyroid hormones, aluminum-containing antacids such as Maalox and Mylanta, proton pump inhibitors such as Nexium and Prilosec, some diuretics and some antibiotics.

“Different types of medications cause bone loss in different ways,” wrote Dr. Melissa Dee Katz, an endocrinologist at Weill Cornell Medical College.

The best way to build your bone strength is to consume lots of calcium and Vitamin D. Easy ways to get these nutrients is by drinking milk, eating yogurt and soaking in the sunlight (with sunscreen on of course!)
