Everyone knows how bad smoking is for your insides, but does everyone know how ugly smoking can make your outsides?
Health.com has provided ways that smoking un-beautifies yourself:
- Baggy Eyes…4 times more likely to feel sleepy and it shows
- Psoriasis- 60% higher chance
- Kiss a dazzling smile goodbye! Nicotine stains teeth
- You look old! Smoking causes you to look 1.5 years older than you really are. Plus smoking messes up the blood supply in your face that keeps it taught and supple.
- Yellow nails and fingers…once again the nicotine is to blame. Ew.
- Toxic chemicals damage DNA in hair follicles- hair starts to thin and begins to gray sooner than later.
- Scarface- nicotine limits the oxygen-rich blood flow to your vessels which takes your wounds longer to heal and more likely to scar.
- Want dentures? You’re 6 times more likely to develop gum disease and lose your teeth.
- Feeling gray? Smoking contains carbon monoxide which removes oxygen from your skin making your skin look gray. Cigarettes remove nutrients from the skin including Vitamin C which helps protect your skin and repair skin damage.
- Forget about cosmetic surgery- if you’re a smoker it will take longer to heal and harder to fix with wrinkly, oxygen-depleted skin
- STD- smokers easily contract infections, especially STDs- HPV and genital warts
- Skin Cancer- lung, throat, mouth, esophagus cancer…so no surprise that skin cancer can develop too. Smokers are three times more likely to develop skin cancer.
- Can cause stretch marks…enough said
- Flab…fat tends to accumulate in the midsection which can heighten risk for diabetes
- 22% heighten risk of developing cataracts
To avoid being ugly on the outside and inside, quit smoking! Then you won’t have yellow teeth, gray hair or wrinkles.
