A new study of 23 children, all whom were allergic to peanuts, revealed that taking small doses of peanut powder daily can increase people’s tolerance to peanuts. A higher tolerance means people wouldn’t be so vulnerable to such small amounts of peanuts. Dr. Wesley Burks says, “When you take the daily dose it changes your immune system in a certain way and it raises the threshold of how much food it takes to cause a reaction.”

People who are allergic to peanuts must be very careful with what they eat because the tiniest amount of food containing peanuts could harm them. Peanut allergies “occur when the body’s immune system mistakenly sees compounds from the foods as invaders and creates antibodies to fight them,” states JoAnne Allen from Reuters. Unfortunately, there is no cure for peanut allergies, which are on the rise worldwide according to scientists; however, further research may prove this new treatment as affective.
