Andrew Rubin from The Huffington Post says he is upset about healthcare reform failing, but is most upset that many Americans are unaware of what has actually happened. He says, “Sure, they know the Senate and House reform bills were expensive. They certainly know that there are among 30 to 50 million Americans without health insurance coverage… We should also not forget about the 25 million under insured, most of whom do not even realize it until they actually get sick.”

Rubin says he doesn’t blame Americans for having a bad feeling about healthcare reform due to the President negotiating deals behind closed doors. He then goes on to say that President Obama needs to step up and lead America to reform because something needs to be done. Rubin says, “Not passing reform will end up costing this country far more than doing nothing.” Healthcare costs will continue to increase which will lead to higher insurance premiums and cost sharing, and people who are unable to afford the higher premiums will have to resort to dropping their insurance altogether.

Rubin says we need to start over on healthcare reform, and “if the politicians can work together, even better. If they cannot, then the President needs to step in and tell the nation what he wants and in no uncertain terms explain to us all the cost of failure… We cannot afford to wait.”

Do you think the positives of reform outweigh the negatives?

I don’t think this whole stupid debate was remotely about healthcare reform, otherwise the Dems would have listened to the Republican’s numerous bills that offered reforms in portability, tort reform, illegal alien cut-offs, and other points that actually keep costs down and access up. It is a lie to say there are 30-50 million uninsured and who is being counted in underinsured? The government should get out of the healthcare business all-together and people need to really consider what they are hearing. This is all about government control over your life. Count me out!
