Kjersten Forseth from The Huffington Post says that in order for our economy to recover, we must reform the nation’s health care system. She reports that, “884,000 families have been forced to file bankruptcy because of medical bills and over 44,000 people have died from lack of coverage all while medical costs continue to rise. Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcies and foreclosures in this country and health care costs account for one-sixth of our nation’s economy.”
Forseth questions why health care reform keeps getting postponed, and goes on to say that insurance companies “have spent over $180 million to defeat health care reform and in the process tried to convince the American public reform will actually harm them.” However, the current health care bills would reduce the deficit, cover people previously denied health insurance coverage, and reduce out of pocket costs for health care expenses. Forseth says Congress has lost sight of the millions of Americans suffering on a daily basis from the rising health care costs. “It is time to get this to the President’s desk for his signature…Enough talking. Enough hand wringing. It is time to act,” states Forseth.
Do you think health care reform is the first step to economic recovery?

I agree we need health care reform. But the current democratic plan is a total takeover of the industry. This goes against our American principles. If you bother to read the proposed legislation it will scare the pants off of you. It is absolutely bad news. I mean it goes on and on about government control, audits of doctors, hospitals, private persons, big time costs, hospitals not being able to expand, health care being rationed etc. The cost to administrate the program alone is mind boggling. The Obama administration needs this win for political reasons, I guess patience is just a waste of time. I am a moderate and the fact that no Republican has voted for it is a big red flag. Taxes will be raised considerably, for example a 2.6 % on your retirement investments that you are already double taxed on, just to mention.one of them. For the price of the takeover and administration they could simply cover those now who cannot afford insurance and care
