Recently more women have been delaying their motherhood to their 30s. It is important for older moms to be aware of the health risks that pertain to them and their potential babies.
There’s nothing you can do to stop or pause your biological clock, but MayoClinic.Com has provided a few tips to help keep you informed:
- It could take awhile to get prego- your eggs start to decrease as you enter your 30s, ovulation slows down and older eggs aren’t fertilized as easily as younger eggs
- It’s twins!!!- having twins is more probable, vitro fertilization enhances this possibility
- Diabetes?!- Gestational diabetes is often times developed, a healthy diet and exercise are imperative- not treating GD can cause your baby to grow too large
- C-Section- pregnancy-related complications can take place
- Down Syndrome- higher risk of certain chromosome problems
- Miscarriage- increased chance
- An older father to be can pose risks to unborn children too- research suggests men age 40 have a higher risk of passing autism to their children to be. Men older than 50 are more likely to produce babies that have birth defects.
Don’t let the sun set upon your dreams of motherhood even though you aren’t in your 20s anymore. Educate yourself, get a great doctor and start taking the right steps to getting pregnant.
