A 10-point manifesto entitled “Declaration of Health Care Independence” was released Wednesday by Rep. Michele Bachmann and a crew of conservative House members. This document contains 10 ideas that Bachmann thinks should be the foundation for an effective health care reform that brings affordable health care to all and controls costs. Larry Bivins from the SC Times states that, “The group said the Republican victory in last week’s Massachusetts Senate race was a clear signal that Americans are disgruntled over the health care proposals pushed by House and Senate Democrats.”

According to Bivins, Bachmann said, “What we’re saying in this document is what we are against, first of all – we’re against increased taxes, increased costs, [and] increased mandates.” Some of the principles in the document include improving the quality of health care, protecting doctor-patient-relationships, and prohibiting any government-sponsored insurance plan. Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence of Indiana thumbs up Bachmann’s 10-point manifesto, and feels it sends a message that Republicans aren’t against health care reform. Bivins reports that, “The lawmakers urged colleagues on both sides of the aisle to sign the document. They said the declaration already is stirring the “tea party” crowd, saying 1,000 supporters have signed an online copy posted on the Tea Party Patriots Web site.”

What do you think about this 10-point manifesto?
