Unfortunately, the swine flu has not gone away forever, but the pandemic was much milder than expected due to fast actions and good decisions made by federal officials, and also a little bit of good luck.

The New York Times states that, “The outbreak highlighted many national weaknesses: old, slow vaccine technology; too much reliance on foreign vaccine factories; [and] some major hospitals pushed to their limits.” However, even with all of those obstacles, there were a lot of things that were done right, which led to a much milder pandemic than expected. Dr. Peter Palese “called the government’s overall response “excellent.””
