It’s not a secret that most people eat healthier when making their own meals at home. But when individuals venture to their favorite eatery, that’s when excess calories are consumed unconsciously.

Southbeachdiet.com has provided five ways to keep you from eating additional calories when you go out to eat:

  • So No To Bread- white bread can throw your blood sugar levels in the sky and make you eat even more
  • Substitute starches for veggies- most restaurants offer a baked potato or rice, request a vegetable instead
  • Avoid those fatty meats- lean protein helps your body maintain muscle mass while watching your diet. Choose a skinless chicken breast, fish or a beef tenderloin
  • Calorie Packed Liquids- watch what you drink, stick to water, unsweetened tea or low-calorie alcoholic drinks such as red wine. Many people don’t realize how many calories they drink when they gulp glass after glass of Dr. Pepper or beer
  • 3 Bite Rule- when it comes to dessert, you should be able to indulge, but be smart. Share a dessert and only take three bites- savor each one so you feel satisfied when the bill is presented.

Put on your best eating behavior when eating out. Make wise decisions and you’ll be happier with yourself later.
