Despite the fact that many parents have reported improvements in their autistic child after changing their diet, there is still no official proof that diets benefit autistic children. There is also no proof that “food allergies, food sensitivities, or gut problems cause autism,” states WebMD.

However, a panel of experts states “that gastrointestinal woes often worsen autism-related problem behaviors.” A lot of the time gastrointestinal disorders are difficult to diagnose in autistic children and “lead to time-consuming behavioral treatments that won’t work.” WebMD has released a detailed list of symptoms and signs of gastrointestinal disorders to look for.

If you think your child may be showing signs of a gastrointestinal disorder, find a pediatrician in your area.
