Many people have oily skin but it can be confusing on how to treat this condition. Some people think it has to do with what they eat but this is a myth. People who have oily skin were born with it and can’t do much to get rid of it. But you can learn to manage it.

Everydayhealth.com has listed these easy do’s and don’ts for taking care of oily skin:

Do:

  • Penetrate your pores by cleansing with salicylic acid
  • Reduce oil production using retinoid at night
  • Apply oil-free foundation
  • Help control oils on the skin by using blotting paper

Don’t:

  • Don’t cleanse with creamy or milk based cleansers
  • Don’t Moisturize
  • Don’t skip on regular sunscreen for powder based SPF
  • Don’t overwash

“If you wash too much, you can strip your face of the essential oils that serve as a barrier to a lot of irritants,” says Rebecca Kazin, MD, an assistant professor of dermatology at Johns Hopkins University and medical director of the Johns Hopkins Cosmetic Center in Baltimore.

Add some oil-free foundation on your shopping list, blotting paper and retinoid and your face will be on it’s way to being oil-free!

Find a dermatologist near your home to help with your oily skin.
