Thinking about getting pregnant? It’s not just important that you stay healthy during pregnancy but it’s crucial you be in premium health prior to conception.
A few things that need to be on your list are consulting your doctor and discussing your diet, lifestyle, medicines, vitamins, supplements and family medical history. The doctor can also prescribe vitamin supplements to help your health before pregnancy.
“Get yourself into optimal health,” says Joel Evans, MD, author of The Whole Pregnancy Handbook and founder of the Center for Women’s Health in Stamford, Conn. Don’t smoke or drink alcohol, and limit caffeine. Maintain a healthy weight; try to get health problems such as diabetes under control; exercise at least 30 minutes a day; and eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Web MD provided quite a few things that pre-pregnant women need to be aware of:
1. Folic Acid
2. Tap Water
3. Mercury vs. Fish
4. Organic Foods vs. Pesticides (Check out the dirty dozen list provided by the Environmental Working Group)
5. Old School Cleaning Products
6. Nesting Mode Dont’s
7. Dry Cleaning
8. Partners Health
This is the time in life to take all of these things seriously. Many women don’t take vitamins, eat right or even exercise, but for the sake of your might-be-born consider all of these precautions; be healthy and smart before your pregnancy begins.
Find a family practitioner near your home to prepare for this joyous time.
