Teen birth rates grew for the second year in a row. This continuing increase has some worrying that attempts to decrease teen pregnancies aren’t as effective as they used to be.
WebMD states that, “Teen births increased 5% between 2005 and 2007, following a 34% drop between 1991 and 2005.” Between 1991 and 2005, there were actually decreases in sexual activity among teens, and the number of teens who used contraceptives increased. Researcher John Santelli, MD, MPH, says the current increase is due to the fact that, “We have raised a generation of young people who don’t have basic information about contraception.”
WebMD has released all the other major birth trends from the new report.
If you are pregnant, find an OB/GYN in your area.
