A study that was focused on happiness showed that southern states were ranked as the happiest, in comparison to states such as New York and California who didn’t quite make the cut. WebMD states that, “Researchers ranked the happiest states (plus the District of Columbia) on self-reported measures of happiness as well as objective measures like sunshine, congestion, and housing affordability and found six out of the top 10 happiest states were in the South.”

Louisiana came in first place on the list, followed by Hawaii and Florida, and way down the list was New York, who came in last. WebMD has released the rankings of all the states.
