Researchers found proteins in cells that naturally battle the flu. This discovery could potentially allow scientists to create better ways to make vaccines and keep people safe from the flu.

According to ABC News, researchers stated that “a family of genes acts as cell sentries that guard cells from an invading influenza virus… [and] this prevents the virus from even getting into the cell.”

If this protein is removed, the virus can duplicate much faster, but if the opposite were to occur, and more protein was present, then cells repel the virus even more. This means that cells that contain the protein have components that shut out almost all of the virus that enters.
