A drug that treats breast cancer has shown to also benefit women by lowering their risk of dying from lung cancer. A study of 6,000 women was performed, and the results suggest that women who are treated for breast cancer with the drug tamoxifen are less likely to die from lung cancer. In comparison, women with breast cancer who are not treated with the same drugs have the same risk of dying from lung cancer as the general public.

The drug tamoxifen shuts out the activity of estrogen, which then slows tumor growth. This drug, tamoxifen, has been used for many years to treat breast cancer. Researchers believe the reason that the drug lowers the risk of lung cancer is due to the “anti-estrogen effect.” Even though researchers have a pretty strong idea as to why the drug lowers the risk of dying from lung cancer, Elisabetta Rapiti, MD, MPH, states that, “much more study is needed.”

If you have any further questions or concerns about the the effects of tamoxifen, talk to a doctor near you.

Far better to prevent both in the first place. Over two years ago the canadian Cancer society started recommending that everyone take vitamin D to prevent cancer. Here is a good website with all the information http://www.vitaminD3world.com
