A new study shows that soy foods consumed in moderate amounts reduce the mortality rate and lessen the chance of cancer reoccurrence in breast cancer survivors.

This might come as a shock for some because there has been some concern that soy might actually enhance the risk of breast cancer; this is because soy is a phytoestrogen, which can act as a weak form of estrogen in the body. But according to this new study, those concerns are nothing to worry about because Dr. Xiao Ou Shu “found that soy actually reduces the availability of naturally occurring estrogen by binding to its receptors.”

U.S. News reports that, “Women who had the highest intake of soy had a 29 percent reduced risk of death and a 32 percent decrease in the risk of cancer recurrence compared to those who ate less than 5.3 grams of soy per day.”

Find a radiologist in your area to get screened for breast cancer.
