There are efforts being made around the world to create a more efficient way of making vaccines. A “new Novartis AG vaccine plant in North Carolina is supposed to boost the U.S.’s ability to fight pandemics like the current swine-flu virus,” reports Betsy McKay and Jeanne Whalen from The Wall Street Journal.

Even though the new plant is a light at the end of the tunnel, a mass production of flu shots won’t be seen for at least another two years. Also, despite the plant’s “cutting edge” technology, the plant will be unable to solve “one of the biggest problems vaccine makers have faced in churning out this year’s swine-flu vaccine: a slow-growing virus.”

If you are interested in getting vaccinated, read more about the safety of the vaccine, and find a doctor in your area to discuss any further concerns you may have.
