A rare cause of blindness, Stargardt’s macular dystrophy, has led Advanced Cell Technology to seek approval from the FDA to test human embryonic stem cells to treat the disease. Advanced Cell Technology is a biotechnology company in Massachusetts, and if their request is approved, they would be the second to receive the go-ahead to test stem cells in human patients.

Find more information on the first company that acquired U.S. approval for stem cell testing here.

Perhaps your eye problems aren’t as serious as Stargardt’s macular dystrophy, but if you’re in need of an optometrist in your area you can find one here.
